Living in Woodstock definitely has its pros and cons. We are a small city with a big heart. Two years ago, the announcement was made that Toyota would be building a massive manufacturing plant on the outskirts of town. Since then, Woodstock has increased in size, and like many other booming cities we have been taken over by major corporations like Wal-Mart. Mind you, I enjoy the easy of one-stop shopping, and many other independently owned businesses have returned to downtown Woodstock, but it’s not the same place I remember growing up.
Yesterday, Iwas informed by a friend that he witnessed Wal-Mart liquidating a RECALLED toy as part of a Christmas sale. Being the activist he is, my friend returned to Wal-Mart that same day and posted the recall notice right over the price sign. (see photo)
The toy in question was the Hasbro Nerf Blaster which was recalled for its ability to cause welts, abrasions, and blood blisters to children. A plunger on the toy will shoot back at the child when a trigger is pulled, and there have been a number of reports of children suffering from injuries to the chest, neck and face.
Wal-Mart currently has the toy recall posted on their company website, but have yet to take it off their shelves. (http://walmartstores.com/FactsNews/8660.aspx?p=7701) If you ask me Wal-Mart needs to take a good look at those in charge of consumer relations. How could they legitimize the continuation of selling this toy, and at discount prices for that matter?
Christmas 2009……Dear Santa:
All I really want for Christmas is two front teeth back. Last year the Nerf Blaster you brought me knocked them out.
